Period Corsets was recently quoted in the New York Times! With the popularity of Bridgerton, a new found interest in historical dressing has risen. Among the several featured costumer enthusiasts, our client Panni Malek and her paintings were a focus along with words from Period Corsets owner, Hilary Specht.

Thanks to Caitlin Kelly for the interview and great article!

Danielle Nieves, Costume Design Associate, Seattle Repertory Theatre:

“We have had nothing but fantastic experiences working with the team at Period Corsets. Friendly, prompt, and thorough, their products have fit perfectly to our specifications and have held the test of time on the stages here at Seattle Rep Theatre. Most recently, we ordered the Alice Corset which needed to be adjusted and lengthened in a short amount of time. Period Corsets turned around the special order for us in just a few days and it fit perfectly. After rigorous activity onstage and extensive wear, the corset has continued to hold up without any issues. Thank you so much for your dedication and excellent craftsmanship!”

Ginger D'Olivo, Costume Shop Supervisor Oregon Shakespeare Festival:

"I love working with Period Corsets. We've used them several times over the years for special projects. We can always count on them to make beautiful, long lasting corsets and petticoats. We recently contracted with Period Corsets to help us with a large number of custom petticoats and corsets. We made several adjustments to one of their existing styles in different sizes and supplied our own various fabrics. They really listened to what we wanted and delivered petticoats and corsets that we were very happy with. Almost as importantly, their customer service is as great as their products. They're easy to work with and always on time. They are a wonderful company to work with and I would recommend them to anyone with corset or petticoat needs."

T. Tyler Stumpf Costume Shop Manager, Arena Stage:

Often in our production season, there just isn't time to build corsets and petticoats for our shows. As a costume shop manager, I use Period Corsets period silhouettes as a resource when showing my designers what is available. It's a great starting point for using the garments as they are from stock or a jumping off point for creating a custom look. In "My Fair Lady" we fit a traditional Theodora c. 1890 shape on the actress, requested alterations to the top neckline, and various custom fabrics for each panel to create a beautiful "Steampunk" corset for the Bar Maid. I received my corset overnight it arrived just in time due to great customer service and went straight into the show without the need for a fitting!

Todd Thomas, Victoria's Secret Fashion Show Head of Collections & freelance costume designer:

I like working with Period Corsets because it's delightful and effective. My needs as a designer are varied, I work on very high profile commercial projects as well as more artistic/ fringe things each requiring a slightly different approach and of course, different budgets to work with. Period Corsets can work within all of these needs. For the smaller projects there are fantastic, ready made things which work and when I have the luxury of creating specialty pieces they're always up for the task of tailoring their work to my needs.

Reliable and they're always up for a challenge. When I first began working with Period Corsets it was early in my career designing for the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show. I think I turned to them in the eleventh hour with an emergency something last minute to be made and it happened....like "that"! Now we start months in advance and have wonderful leisurely collaborations which make for great results.

David Woolard, Costume Designer:

"For the Goodspeed Opera production of "Pirates of Penzance", which I set in the early 1700s, I wanted the look of the c. 1660 Kristina, but with the movement allowed by the c. 1770 Judith. Period Corsets was able to work out a variation in fabrics we supplied . The corsets worked perfectly. The singers had no problem with movement and looked spot-on; and since they spent most of act 1 in just their corsets and pettipants that was pretty important."

Carrie Robbins, Costume Designer:

"Period Corsets has made several recent shows of mine look RIGHT. All the ladies in "White Christmas" from San Francisco to Boston to England were appropriately bullet-like in the bosom because of the wonderful foundation Period Corsets was able to execute according to my design. And the ladies of "American in Paris" were similarly 'enhanced' with variations on these 'merry widows'. The quality of the garments is excellent and consistent, and Hilary and her team are wonderful to work with. I've always found their wide range of period shapes to be extremely useful for other theatre and opera I've done. And the price is right, always a good thing!"

B. Esberg, Costume Designer & Stylist for Madonna:

"Working with Period Corsets has been nothing but a great experience. They really know how to beat a deadline and custom-make the impossible. The garment's were all to my and my client's satisfaction. If you let your imagination go there, they can make it."

Megan Petkewec, Costume Director, Glimmerglass Opera (Cooperstown, NY):

"Period Corsets is such a wonderful resource for us. If they do not already have the perfect thing to fit our needs, they will create a hybrid or something brand new to add to their line! I cannot say enough good things about each and every aspect of working with them, therefore we use them at every opportunity."

Tiffany Carmel Lake, Private Client, Opera Singer:

“I just got the corset you guys made for me and I'm beside myself with how beautiful it is!!!!!  Really...  tears of joy are welling up in my eyes! I think it has to be one of the most beautiful costume pieces I own!  You have a devoted fan and customer for life! …  I can't believe you guys even used my fabric for the piping around the edges...  I mean, the care you took is fantastic!”

Candace Curry, Private Client:

“I highly recommend buying from Period Corsets. They worked quickly to suit my tight schedule, without sacrificing quality. I appreciate the effort that was made to choose my specific color and perfectly tailor the corset to me! I’ve only ever worn pre-made corsets and wow was this superior!!!”

Kat Dolan, Private Client:

“I cannot express enough how amazing this corset is. I was very hesitant at first because of the price but decided it would be a birthday present to myself and took the leap. I have several corsets already and I’m sure I’ll never want to wear any of them again! This is the highest quality and actually gets the results you’d expect if you’re going for a certain era…Walking around the renaissance faire in it, my boyfriend, who doesn’t usually notice these things, actually said “looking at everyone else here, it’s obvious you’re wearing the Cadillac of corsets”
