Rebecca Kaufman and Susan Davis are the owners of Period Corsets. The business developed from their love of theatrical costuming and fine, precise stitching; they wanted to create beautiful period silhouettes upon which costumers could work their magic. Both Becky and Susan have worked in professional costume shops around the country since the mid 1980s; Susan is currently the Costume Shop Manager at Seattle Opera. In 1997 they merged their knowledge of historical costume and costume technology to create Period Corsets.

TESTIMONIALS:

David Woolard, Costume Designer:

"For the Goodspeed Opera production of "Pirates of Penzance", which I set in the early 1700s, I wanted the look of the c. 1660 Kristina, but with the movement allowed by the c. 1770 Judith. Period Corsets was able to work out a variation in fabrics we supplied . The corsets worked perfectly. The singers had no problem with movement and looked spot-on; and since they spent most of act 1 in just their corsets and pettipants that was pretty important."

Carrie Robbins, Costume Designer:

"Period Corsets has made several recent shows of mine look RIGHT. All the ladies in "White Christmas" from San Francisco to Boston to England were appropriately bullet-like in the bosom because of the wonderful foundation Period Corsets was able to execute according to my design. And the ladies of "American in Paris" were similarly 'enhanced' with variations on these 'merry widows'. The quality of the garments is excellent and consistent, and Hilary and her team are wonderful to work with. I've always found their wide range of period shapes to be extremely useful for other theatre and opera I've done. And the price is right, always a good thing!"

B. Esberg, Costume Designer & Stylist for Madonna:

"Working with Period Corsets has been nothing but a great experience. They really know how to beat a deadline and custom-make the impossible. The garment's were all to my and my client's satisfaction. If you let your imagination go there, they can make it."

Meggan Peters, Instructor/Costume Lab Supervisor, Miami University (Oxford, OH):

"The staff and shipping department at Period Corsets(r) are to be congratulated! Thanks so much for sending our order so quickly. Wonderful service! Wonderful quality garment! As always, it is perfect. I am happy to recommend your products to any and everyone."

Margaret Whedon, Assistant Professor/Costume Designer, Northwest Missouri State University (Maryville, MO):

"I teach at a small university, so making period undergarments is not practical--no one knows how to sew but me. With a little creative budgeting, the university has been able to purchase period undergarments in installments; we use them in our productions as well as our classes (Period Style/Acting, Theatre Movement, etc.) I highly recommend Period Corsets for all your period garment needs."

Carolyn Keim, Costume Director, ACT Theatre (Seattle WA):

"We've used several styles of corsets from Period Corsets over the past few years. We've done standard styles in standard fabrics and corsets with custom details and our fabric and they have been wonderful every time. Our actresses especially like the Julia and have raved about how comfortable they are!"

Alix Dolgoy, Costume Design Coordinator, Stratford Festival (Stratford, ON, Canada):

"We recently used the Julia corsets, the mid-19th Century Hoops and the Ruffled Petticoats in a new movement piece based on the story of Moby Dick. These items have been an unqualified success for the designer, the actors, and the budget. We were very pleased with the products and the service has been so efficient. Thank you."

Megan Petkewec, Costume Director, Glimmerglass Opera (Cooperstown, NY):

"Period Corsets is such a wonderful resource for us. If they do not already have the perfect thing to fit our needs, they will create a hybrid or something brand new to add to their line! I cannot say enough good things about each and every aspect of working with them, therefore we use them at every opportunity."

David Burke, Costume Director, The Santa Fe Opera (Santa Fe, NM):

"Kaufman-Davis Studio made the corsets for "Beatrice and Benedict", designed by Antony Mcdonald. The corsets were constructed of boned, quilted nylon net, made to measure. These corsets are very well made, with future alterations in mind, and have become an important addition to our costume stock."

Janet, Historic Reenactor:

"Loved my first corset I got from you and I am looking forward to owning another. I recommend your company often to my other living history friends. Thank you for a superior product."

Megan Maples, Historic Reenactor:

"I have been reenacting now for about seven years. I bought a corset from you a few years ago and it has been great! Your customers know good craftsmanship when they see it and that is why they return whenever they need something. You...are the best! I swear by your products and service."
